Sculpture Garden

Segera’s artistically landscaped areas of wild botanical life and graceful architectural structures provide the perfect backdrop for displaying sculptural artworks. In the Zeitz Sculpture Garden, created in 2012 (before the Retreat itself), monumental works forged from bronze, stone and steel, as well as land installations and outdoor projections, dot the landscape and are visible from just about every vantage point, encouraging guests to experience an active engagement with the artworks around them. From the humor of Cameron Platter’s “Crocodile Ruler,” to the distinctive aesthetics of Nandipha Mntambo’s arresting figures and the provocative nature of David Brown’s “Tyrants” and Brendhan Dickerson’s “Zumazela”, the Zeitz Sculpture Garden acts as a unifying force between the land and the intriguing cultures of Africa.
